Let's Hear it for the Men and Women in Blue

I just had one of the best experiences, and I want to share it with you guys. Some of the counties and municipalities here in Georgia have what they call Citizens Police Academies. It's a modified version of what police recruits go through and it's free. You get instruction on the laws governing police work from traffic law to when you have a right to use force against others. It included firearms instruction from police officers and a ridealong. I got to go to the gun range and fire a 40-caliber glock handgun and an AR-15 assault rifle. We saw a demonstration from one of the K-9 officers (Officer Bosco rocks!) and studied a simulated crime scene as if we were real CSIs.

Needless to say this gave me a lot of valuable research info for the books, since our Connie is a police detective and all. I encourage you all to take advantage of the Citizens Police Academies if one is offered near you. And I want to give a big shout out to the awesome, awesome officers of the Acworth Police Department! Y'all are the best!

That's Great! I have taken a course similar to this one and enjoyed it very much. I support the Second Amendment to the US Constitution and Georgia House Bill 89 which provides responsible Georgia residents with the Georgia Firearms License (GFL). This allows me to openly carry my firearms about 99% of the state. This is not to supersede our police, but to recognize that they cant be everywhere and the right to personal protection is provided to EVERY AMERICAN! Raven, maybe some of your characters should have a GFL? Love the series!

Thanks for you comment, M! In the Savannah vampires' world, Jack and Werm and them don't need guns 'cos they've got fangs. :-) Maybe Melaphia should get an assault rifle, though.

Have just completed the Savannah Vampire Series. AWESOME to say the least. Looking forward to reading more from Jack about the OLD ONES. Will there be anymore?

Thanks, Deb! Unfortunately, Ballantine didn't renew my contract, but if you sign up for the newsletter on the web site, I'll let you know when it's available from another publisher. I have a new job, though, so I can't say when it'll be finished.
Thanks for posting!
