Of wizards and cliffhangers

Hello, everybody. Spring is almost here, and you all know what that means. Our favorite shows go on hiatus until the fall! And my beloved Battlestar Gallactica isn’t going to be back until 2008! Argh!

You know all the big dramas and even some of the comedies will end on cliffhangers. Which brings me to the real subject of my blog. My books end with cliffhangers. This is, admittedly, a device to inspire readers to look for the next book in the series. But it’s also just how I write. I like it, but I don’t want to annoy people. So tell me your feelings about the cliffhangers that end the books. Do they bother you?

Speaking of TV, I’m really into “The Dresden Files.” I just LOVE that sexy Paul Blackthorne. He looks kind of like Jack, only Jack has more hair and muscles, blue eyes, and a southern accent.

Do I like cliffhangers? I can honestly say if I get to the end of a book that I really enjoyed only to find a cliffhanger, my first reaction is "noooo!!!" then I rush off to get the next book and forgive the author. XX

Well, the editor says June and the Ballantine web site says November. I'll put it on the site as soon as I get a cover graphic to go with the release date.

Your cliffhanger at the end of book 2 is just right. What I'm not keen on is when a book feels 'unfinished'.. The Vampire's Secret wraps up most things, but then leaves that big cliffhanger, which is sure to make people run out for the next book!

Talking of which... I'm really excited about book 3. (And if I get that sneak preview to review for you, even better! ;D)

Thanks, Neriah and Michelle,
Internet shopping is quite convenient, isn't it? The first time I ordered a wedding present for an out-of-town friend, I thought it was a miracle! It was wrapped and shipped with a card and it only took five minutes. What times we live in. :-) Michelle, I promise to get you an advance copy for your reivew. Right now I'm waiting for the revision letter. Meanwhile I am working on book four.

Good grief. It looks like a nursing club here with a sub interest in vampires. :0

Michelle, I believe I've seen your cats, yes. They're darling. So are the kids.

Neriah, okay, back to vampires--I read an interesting vampire fact today. In olden times in Eastern Europe where vampires were greatly feared, people thought that garnets would protect you from them, much like garlic and crosses. Perhaps I'll make a garnet necklace to give away in one of the upcoming contests.

I just stumbled on "Vampire's Seduction" at the local bookstore. Bought it and read it in less than a day. So, of course I had to run out the next day and buy the other one. I'm not real crazy about cliffhangers, especially when they leave such a sweet, innocent child in danger. If book 3 were already out, you know I'd have read it by know! Can't wait for the next one. You rock!!

Thanks, Jo!!! I have mixed feelings about cliffhangers too, but, well, I just went with my gut on that one. The next book is out in November.
